Good-for-you goals this New Year with the National Trust

A new year is a great time to try something different, whether it’s spending more time outdoors or starting a new chapter with a new job. Whatever you decide to do, the upcoming events at the National Trust in the English Riviera could be just what you’re looking for.

Winter warmer walks around Greenway and Coleton Fishacre
Sunday 19 and 26 January, and Sunday 2, 9, 16 and 23 February, 11am-1pm.
The Active Outdoors Officer will be leading free guided walks on the coastal paths around Coleton Fishacre and around the Greenway estate. It’s a great way to get to know the area and get some fresh air. For more details, visit

5k and 10k trail run
Sunday 26 January at Coleton Fishacre, 8.30am registration for 9am start
The Trust10 is a free monthly trail run that gives you the opportunity to explore Coleton Fishacre and the surrounding South West Coast Path on the fourth Sunday of every month. The run route gives stretching sea views and access to the exotic garden at Coleton Fishacre. If you’re looking for a more challenging route to work towards to, or even if running is brand new for you, why not try the monthly Trust10? You could run one 5k loop of the route or go the full 10k on a double loop.

Volunteer drop-in afternoons
Saturday 8 February at Greenway and Sunday 9 February at Coleton Fishacre, 1.30pm-3.30pm
If you’re looking to make new friends, get some great experience for your CV or want to help towards a great cause, there’s sure to be a role for you. From book lovers to festival helpers and welcoming assistants, there’s plenty of ways to get involved as a volunteer. At the drop-in sessions you can find out more about what volunteering is like and meet some of the team for a chat over tea and biscuits. To find out more, contact Volunteering Officer Laura Rugg: 01803 842382 or

New Year, new job?
If you would like to work for the National Trust in the English Riviera, now is a great time to get your foot in the door. New jobs are being added to the website all the time:

Scabbacombe beach clean
Saturday 28 March, Scabbacombe beach near Coleton Fishacre, 10am-12pm
The English Riviera countryside rangers are organising a beach clean and desperately need some help. The beach is hard to access – it’s secluded, remote and very challenging to remove the litter from the shores. Vehicles can’t reach it, as the tracks are steep and uneven, so can you help? You’re welcome to join in at any point between 10am and 12pm, but please be aware we don’t recommend this to anybody with limited mobility.
Parking for the beach is available in Scabbacombe car park (free for National Trust members). Please wear weather appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear. Gloves and bin bags will be provided.
