Art deco Country retreat complete with garden by the sea

Travel back in time to the Jazz Age with a trip to Coleton Fishacre, the country home of the D’Oyly Carte family.

Built in the Arts & Crafts style in the 1920’s, the house is filled with Art Deco elegance. Wander the rooms as music plays, echoing the family’s Gilbert and Sullivan connections. You can even get a glimpse into 1920’s life ‘upstairs and downstairs’ from the glamorous Saloon to the airy servants’ rooms.

The RHS accredited garden has viewpoints giving breath taking views of the sea and coastline. Paths weave through glades and past peaceful ponds, with borders full of colour all year round. Tender plants from the Mediterranean, South Africa and New Zealand thrive in the sheltered valley, transporting you to somewhere tropical.

Cafe Coleton has indoor and outdoor seating, serving refreshments, snacks and light lunches. Browse the courtyard full of plants and garden accessories, or inside the lifestyle shop has gifts galore. There’s even a second-hand bookshop in the garden, dedicated to the outdoors.
